The Red Read, Christopher Marmolejo
In Christopher’s own words…
“It has been five years since going fully independent as teacher, prophetess, authoress. Its all been a one-women show—writing, making and conducting courses, offering consultations. The work is demanding, but so damn rewarding.
A consistent struggle is making due where the work demands expertise beyond my ability. Suffice it to say I’m no site developer, so its been all the more inspiring to finally work with a true professional that could take my site to the next level.
The Red Read is something between an altar and art-installation. It now visual reflects the radical spirit and decolonial mission that the red read strives toward. May your experience at my digital home-base evoke the transformative clarity that will mirror what you will encounter in a consultation or class.
And if you are looking for assistance with your web design, I cannot recommend HR highly enough. She is truly the gold star standard (and certified Squarespace Gold Member) for innovative design. Looking at her portfolio, inspired by a recent Four Queens Divination revamp, I knew my work would not just be safe but aesthetically elevated in HR’s hands.”
—Christopher Marmolejo
From the beginning, The Red Read asked to be a site that was not simply informational but ceremonial. Christopher Marmolejo’s work as a diviner and teacher moves within registers of ritual, decolonial critique, and queer ancestral practice, so the site needed to carry that same gravity. It needed to feel like a threshold, a place you enter, not just a page you land on.
I designed the site to hold both weight and tenderness. Poetic visuals, layered textures, and deliberate motion create an experience that unfolds like ceremony. Every image, shadow, and phrase of copy was chosen to echo themes of ancestry, ritual, and threshold.
Custom CSS and JavaScript, animation, horizontal scrolling, sticky splits, footer reveal, and other custom affects elevate The Red Read to emphasize key areas while not overwhelming the viewer or busying the landscape.
The site’s content paths include readings, classes, community subscription, and writing, all grounded in clarity. Offers are not hidden by mystique. Bookable readings are visible. Course details are clear. Calls such as “Get Red” work as both invitation and invocation.
Functionally the site adapts across devices with the same atmosphere. High contrast ensures accessibility. Navigation is straightforward. Payment and booking flows are designed to feel sacred rather than transactional. The voice and aesthetic converge so that entering The Red Read is to step into a space where clarity and ritual meet.
