Pop Smart Media

Pop Smart Media is the platform of Dr. Shan, a cultural studies professor, writer, and creator whose work explores the intersections of pop culture, film, storytelling, travel, and power. The site needed to hold intellectual depth while also feeling contemporary, immersive, and visually alive—something capable of reflecting the layered, cinematic quality of the work itself.

Built in Squarespace, the project leans heavily into custom development and advanced interaction design. Extensive custom CSS, layered animation systems, dynamic transitions, nuanced hover interactions, and targeted visual effects were implemented throughout the site to create a responsive experience with movement, rhythm, and atmosphere across every page.

A major goal of the project was pushing Squarespace well beyond a standard build. Careful attention was given to timing, pacing, interaction states, motion hierarchy, and visual continuity so the site would feel cinematic without becoming overwhelming. The result is a website that balances clarity and usability with a strong sense of immersion and contemporary visual identity.

Projects like this are especially rewarding because they combine intellectually rich content with highly detailed design and development work beneath the surface. The final site feels fluid, layered, and dynamic while remaining intuitive and easy to navigate.
